Manchester United are currently the record title winners in the English top flight having won the division a total of 20 times since 1889. Most of these wins came after the inception of the Premier League at the start of the 1992/93 season under the leadership of manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Indeed, United’s most recent title came in the 2012-13 season, which was Ferguson's final season of management before his retirement. Since his retirement, city rivals Manchester City have lifted the trophy four times, including during the most recent 2020-21 season.

The broadcasting payments split among all clubs amounted to almost over 2.5 billion British pounds in the 2020/21 season, showing a 150 percent increase in eight years.
Arsenal and Liverpool - kings of the cup
While Manchester United lead the way in terms of league titles, it is their historic rivals Liverpool FC and their city rivals Manchester City who have claimed the most Football League Cup trophies. Both teams have lifted the cup a total of eight times, with Liverpool most recently lifting the trophy back in 2003. The other domestic trophy that is up for grabs each year is the FA Cup, the world's oldest club soccer competition. Arsenal FC have a record 13 FA Cup wins to their name, with the club's most recent title coming in 2017. Hot on Arsenal’s heels is Manchester United, whose 2016 victory marked their 12th victory in the cup.
